Nestled

Overview

Nestled organizes household storage in a Rooms → Boxes → Items hierarchy. Tag containers with NFC stickers, tap your phone to one, and its contents come up. Households share a single synced inventory. Designed, built, and shipped solo to the App Store.

Problem

Inventory apps require typing a catalog of your possessions and then remembering to open the app to search it. Friction at capture and retrieval means the data goes stale. Making the container itself the interface removes both.

Approach

Started as a Flask/HTMX/SQLite kiosk on a Raspberry Pi in my basement. The interaction worked; being tethered to a kiosk didn't. I learned React from scratch and rebuilt it in React Native/Expo. Items belong to containers, containers to spaces, spaces are the unit of sharing. Household sharing followed naturally from it. Moved local SQLite to Firebase (Auth + Firestore) for sync, after modeling costs: reads dominate the bill long before storage does, which shaped the caching strategy.

Outputs

Live on the Apple App Store. NFC scanning, full-inventory search, multi-device sync, household sharing. Working Android build from the same codebase, not yet submitted.
